Oh, Hello Again…

I looked around and decided that waiting for Vietnamese takeout is just enough time to write a short blog post.

Although, I have to confess, my knitting time has decreased considerably these days. Between the kids, work, and other family things getting in the way, knitting has taken a back seat to life. And therefore, blogging must also wait.

I do have a sweater to show you, but until I can find some time to take a decent picture, maybe this will hold you over?

I realized something about myself this week right after I picked up the Slipped Hours Sweater. I realized that I am a big, fat, chicken when it comes to knitting sweaters. I love the idea; and believe you – me, I have enough sweater quanities of yarn to prove that statement. And, I like the end product. Nothing says accomplishment than knitting the equivalent of a couple dozen football fields worth of yarn.

But – and here is the rub – I often put sweaters down and stow them away when I am about half way through. I get scared. Maybe it will be too big? Worse still, maybe it will be too small? Maybe the yarn I choose isn’t right for the pattern? Maybe it’s just an ugly pattern? Maybe everything is wrong and then what? See. BIG FAT CHICKEN.

So, I stow it away. Put it in the WIP bin and cast on for some socks. And then, I wait to get some of my nerve back. I tell myself, you can just frog it. Undo it. And, I could, right? I could just frog it? But, I don’t want to. I love this sweater. A lot.

Please tell me you do too.

Pretty soon, I will be casting off for the sleeves. Hopefully soon, I will have some finished photos. And then, you can be the judge.

Socks, Socks, and more Socks

I finshed another pair of socks. Well, I actually finished two pairs, but one pair still needs to be blocked. I think perhaps tonight might just be the night.

Yarn: Wollmeise 100% merino (Were you expecting anything else?)

We are all busy fighting off colds, making quiche, and going to the park here at chezDarts. Hopefully soon the blogging mojo will be back. Although, I have to say, I think Ravelry might actually be the culprit. Somehow it just seems to suck endless hours out of my day.

Maybe I need an intervention?

Lest You Thought I Was Dead…

It’s been over a month since I last blogged. Wow. Time flies when you are this busy.

What’s kept me away? Work, work travel, and contract knitting.

I knew it was time to cut down on the work travel when TG and I had this conversation two Monday’s ago:

Me: Hi honey. I will be home Thursday night, quite late.

Him: What time is it where you are?

Me: What do you mean? It’s the same time as where you are.

Him: Oh, where are you again? You are gone so often that I can’t keep track of what time zone you are in.

Whoops. Maybe too much travel.

As for contract knitting, this is what I have been up to:

I’ll Take the Bronze

In the interest of full disclosure, I didn’t make it. I was one and a half sleeves away by mid day today and that’s when I noticed a fatal flaw.

Somehow between 10PM and midnight last night, I had crossed a cable in my sleeve the wrong way. And, there was no going back without frogging practically the whole sleeve. So, I frogged. I may have cried a little, but in the end, it was the right thing to do.

So, as of 1PM today, going into the final hours of the Olympic games, I have two fronts, and a back, plus half of a neck completed.

Next time, I am going to bring home the gold. After all, I do have 4 years to practice.

Ravelympics Watch, Day 11

Somehow I am behind. Sadly, I am only 3/4 of the way done the second front. I fully expected to be halfway through the back by now.

Clearly, I have been spending too much time cooking, cleaning, and interacting with my family.

I plan to rectify that soon. No more fooling around. Game face on. Go me.

Oh, also, please do not mention that band of darker color where the yarn suddenly decided to change shades. It might make my head explode.

Olympics Watch 2010, Day 3

I fully expect to cast off the right front of my Fireside Sweater tonight. See how far I have come in just two and a half days?

And, I was totally right about this yarn. Soft, yet sproingy. Perfect. See you in another day or so for a check in.

As I type this, thousands of knitters are madly casting on and knitting furiously on projects destined to be finished in just 17 days for Ravelympics.

I too have cast on, in honor of our Olympic athletes and am challenging myself to a completely crazy, but (in my mind), a totally doable goal. I cast on for the Fireside Sweater last night while watching the Opening Ceremonies with Bunny and I plan to cast off during the Closing Ceremonies. It can be done! Wish me luck.

We were part of some serious history here today. The New Orleans Saints won their very first ever Superbowl. And we were here, in the French Quarter to see the whole thing. I couldn’t have planned the whole thing better, even if I tried.

I shot some video right after the Saints won. Warning, it’s a big file, but well worth it. I wish I could convey the atmosphere here to y’all. It’s crazy!

So, TG and I are hopping off into the Skies and heading out to the city of beads.

That’s right, we are headed off to New Orleans for almost Mardi Gras. And, no, despite the title of this blog post, I won’t be showin’ my 38 longs and collecting beads.

We are going for the food, fun, and hopefully we will see a crocodile or two. I will let you know all about it when we get back.

In the meantime, I am thinking of what knitting to pack. See, they have upped the security on flights to and from the US, so, I think metal dpn’s are decidedly out.

I plan to bring my spice market sweater.

and some roundy rounds.

I just finished some of these and I think they will be the perfect project for the trip.

And no, we aren’t taking the kids. That way lies madness. See you on the flip side.
