Nine Tailors Sock Kit

I bought this at Rhinebeck because I loved the colors and thought that the intarsia strip that is designed to run down the center of the sock was interesting. Little did I know I had so much more to be excited about.

The kit, designed by the Tsarina of Socks,  is based on the book The Nine Tailors by Dorothy L. Sayers which is phenomenal as the premise of the book is based on change-ringing. Change-ringing, in case you don’t know (I didn’t) is practiced in English churches by making melodies with large parish bells. I picked up the book in New York and have been hooked ever since.

How can you go wrong with a sock pattern that includes plot spoilers?

No Peeking!

Sadly, I can’t think of when I will get some time to get into this pattern. It will require some heavy-duty concentration. That doesn’t seem to be in the cards for right now.I came home to a very sick kid!

Bunny has been running a high fever for the last few days and Monkey seems to be right behind her. Cross your fingers that it doesn’t hit the big people. We are needed to run things around here…

Original Monkey Sock & Me

The Cigar Gloves were finished last night and I must say, I think they are a welcome addition to TG’s fall wardrobe.

Man Mitts

Pattern: Cigar by Keri Cadd
Yarn: Louet Gems Worsted in Charcoal (just under 1 skein) & scraps of Dream in Color Classy in Spring Tickle
Needles: US 5 (3.75mm)
Mods: I made the second mitt with all fingers finished. I figured that he would only use them for smoking and would only need one hand to smoke with.

These gloves took me less than a week to finish and TG loves them. I finally found something that he would let me knit for him. Anything else that I have tried to suggest has been met with “it’s too scratchy” or “it’s too hot”.

Looks like these are a perfect fit!

Up next on the needles is an Xmas gift. Here are some hints. It will be for someone smaller than a breadbox, cabled, and made out of this yarn…

Any Guesses?

I am currently in the process of trying to pare down my WIP’s.

 See, every so often, something comes over me and I realize that my start-itis has gotten way out of hand and I have so many projects on the needles that I can’t keep them all straight.

So, I start working on the projects already on the needles and resolutely commit to not casting on for something new….

… until I start looking at the yarn…

And then new things jump onto the needles and work their way, eventually to finished objects.

So, I have put myself and my yarn on a diet. I have wanted to lose the last 20 lbs of baby weight that I put on with my first babe over 5 years ago.

The plan is that for every 5lbs of weight that I lose, I will reward myself with $100.00 worth of yarn. Seems fair right? Let’s hope that it works out to be a win/win situation.

The only thing that doesn’t count are yarn clubs. Because, well, those never count…. everyone knows that.

I suppose you will have to visit AuntyTink, or SpinKnit’sblog to see some pics of Rhinebeck itself.

What I can show you, however, are pictures of some FO’s that I managed to eject from my needles while I was there.

Malabrigo Scarf

Pattern: Simple 2×2 Rib Scarf (Cast on 36 stitches and work in 2×2 rib)
Needles: US 10.5 (6.5mm)
Yarn: Malabrigo in Alpine Pearl (Pretty much all of 2 skeins)

And, I also started some socks on the plane to New York and darn near finished them on the plane home. I would have finished them, except by then, I was so tired I couldn’t see the stitches anymore.

Needles: Two US 1 (2.25mm) circs
Yarn: Crystal Palace Maisy in Corn
Mods: None.

Tonight, I took Bunny with me to the polling station so I could a) vote and b) take her through the democratic process.

When we went to the polling station, which coincidentally, was her school. She first gave me crap for parking in the teacher’s parking lot. Apparently, even though it was 7:20 PM and we were voting made no difference. So, lest her attention be diverted from the democratic process, I moved the damn car.

Then, I explained what we were there to do. She didn’t really get it, until I explained that this was a federal election and that this person would basically be in charge of the whole country for the next few years, at least. The conversation went a little something like this:

Me: Do you understand what I am doing here?
Her: No. What?
Me: Voting for who I think should be the next person who is in charge of our country (remember, she is 6)
Her: Randy Jackson?
Me: No.
Then we got into the actual pooling booth and she argued with me (loudly) about who I should vote for, based solely on the party name. As we were leaving, she again asked me what was so important about voting. And, I again explained that we were choosing the person who would be responsible for making laws and running Canada for the next while.

She thought a bit about this, then replied, “that’s mean” and the subject was closed.

Of course, this leaves me with the ultimate knitters dilemma; what to knit on the way to Rhinebeck?

Luckily, I have lots of options. Simple socks and other accessories really are the way to go when you are touring New York city with 7 of your closest friends.

So, with that in mind, I will be taking my copy of 25 Favorite Socks to Knit from Interweave and a few different yarn options. I need to make a decision soon as there are only 4 more sleeps left! What do you think?
