The uber girly socks were finished yesterday.

They are truly all that and a bag of chips.

Rogue Roses Finished

Rogue Roses Finished

Pattern: Rogue Roses

Yarn: Socks that Rock Medium Weight, Gertrude Skein colorway

Needles: US 1.5 (2.5mm) harmony dpn’s

Mods: Only one. I choose to sew down the cuff after the socks were completed, for previously mentioned reasons.

Verdict: I love these socks. Off the foot, they bias, however, once worn, they fit like a dream. I still don’t know how I feel about the medium weight vs. the lightweight STR. I would imagine that the medium weight wears more like steel as the fabric it creates is very dense.

The pattern was elegant and never boring.

I would think that an intermediate knitter could pull these off with no problems. I think they look more intimidating than they actually are difficult to knit.

All in all, a real winner.

Last night, I turned the heel on the new STR sock club sock and in a flurry of knitting, worked my way almost to the toe.

I loved the slipstitch (purl) heel so very very much that I stopped mid heel to snap a few pictures for posterity.

The heels are made by slipping knit and alternating purl stitches and then purling back across. This means that not once do you ever knit a stitch when working the heel! Who would have thunk it, right?

And, it makes a very cool looking and very textured inside of the heel.

And, today I have one more thing to show you.

A year ago, Bunny & I went to my LYS and picked up some Butterfly super10 cotton in a pretty yellow color. Bunny picked out the color and it’s so sunny that it made me happy to cast on for a new cardigan for her.

Miles and miles of stockinette make for mindless (and somewhat soothing) knitting.

I know last week I was all about the new Cat Bordhi sock, and while I had the best of intentions to stay loyal to that sock, this week everything changed when I went to the mail.

And found this:

BMFA Sock Club Kit March 2009

BMFA Sock Club Kit March 2009

I haven’t loved a kit this much since the Monsoon kit that came out in 2007.

So I threw everything else aside and gleefully cast on for the first sock.

Then I realized that I jogged my picot edge (or so I thought), resulting in a sock knit on the bias. So, I ripped the darn thing out, undid the picot edge, started knitting the leg again and realized that the sock biases all on it’s own.

Of course.

So, here is the progress that I’ve made so far. I keep trying not to think about all that work lost.

And, see, the little rosebuds? These socks are so girly, I could just about plotz.

Oooh, rosebuds.

Oooh, rosebuds.

The pink mystery thing is starting to take shape. It should  now be patently obvious that it is a Sock Monkey a la Blue Moon. This is one of the two kits that I picked up at Rhinebeck and I am trying to get all sock monkeys finished for Christmas for the small people in our house.

Hopefully, it will look a little less Frankenstein-ish when the rest of it’s limbs are complete and the eyes and mouth are sewn on.

I have also been working on a scarf and mitts gift set. These seem to be flying off the needles.

I still have a few more gifts to get finished before The Big Day.

I have never really committed to this much Xmas knitting before. Please send knitting mojo.

Since the small, cabled, red thing has jumped off the needles, something else must jump on. But, in the tradition of the last few secret posts, I will only be showing you the tail end

I finished my first Ravelympics Project.

Cleopatra Stockings

Cleopatra Stockings

Pattern: Cleopatra Stockings (Rockin Sock Club, May 2008 ) (size small)

Yarn: Socks that Rock (Lightweight) in The Incredible Shrinking Violet

Needles: US 1.5 (2.5mm) for the foot and US 2 (2.75mm) for the leg

I can’t wait to get the remainder of the WIP’s off my needles, alleviate the associated guilt, and move on to some new things. I have three more socks to finish and then the rest of the baby blanket that I started last year.

Someone had a birthday today. Two someones actually.

We had a Mega Bounce House.

We had presents.

And we had cake.

Good fun was had by all.

In other news, I finished the first Cleopatra Stocking.

SOS 2008 - Cleopatra Stocking

Are you wondering what the white tail is sticking out? That’s a lifeline that I inserted into the sock when I strayed from the pattern. I wanted to be sure that I could quickly erase my modification to the back of the sock if it wasn’t looking like it fit with the rest of the sock. Luckily I love it. Hopefully I will be able to duplicate it when I cast on for the second sock.

I am also working on a set of Embossed Leaves socks.

Ok, so life has been a little unkind lately. Not so much in a full on kick you in the teeth sort of way, but more so in a hey, check out what’s important to you and make sure you make time for it sort of way. Again, with the cryptic, I know. More details? Yes, I can do that.

Let’s see, Monkey is sick. For her birthday party, she has a runny nose and is all stuffy. Say it with me, “poor Monkey”. I was so busy last week (and the week before) that I went (finally) to get her Bunny a birthday present and they only had one Easy Bake Oven in the store (seriously!) and it got scooped by a 6 year old about 5 minutes before we could get to it. Thank goodness for Grandma. She scored one at Walmart.

What else? Right. TG has been busy this week. He sanded and painted both decks at our place, mudded and sanded a ton of walls and primed them for painting. And, he is actually painting them as we speak. And, I have put in about 100 hours of overtime in the last 3 months. Crazy. Yes, I get this.

However, I have a secret remedy for all this work…

A Trip to Rhinebeck!!!! Oh yes. With my girlfriends, Ms. Bananie and The Goddess of Lace. I booked my flight today. So, the blog will be on hiatus for five days in October. Not to worry though, I have much to show you before then.

Like some new Socks that Rock. Goody Goody, Gumdrops.

And, I played around with the editing feature on Flickr a bit so I could really show the true color variations of the turquoise cashmere lace that came in the mail the other day. Much better.

I have been on the fence lately about lace knitting. I keep buying lace yarn, because I want so much to be a lace knitter. However, I am forced to face the fact that my lace knitting spends more time in the time out basket than in my hands. Oh well, I shall persevere.

As a matter of fact, this came in the mail today. Cashmere. Pretty.

I would have liked to show the subtle variations in the teal blue. The spectrum of the skein is fantastic. It ranges from greenish seas to deep ocean blue. However, given the quality of light when I come home from work and the sun is setting, it’s hard to take a decent photo. You will just have to take my word for it. And soft? Forgetaboutit.

I also turned the heel on my first Cleopatra Stocking. This is a tricksy pattern as there are no photos of the back of the sock in the pattern. I suppose I will just have to improvise.

p.s. I miss Tuesday night knit circle. I promise to get out next week…

Life has been a tich stressful lately. Seems as though the things that I thought would be a slam dunk have been a big ‘ol mess and the things that I thought would be uber tough ended up turning out in the end. Could I be more cryptic? I doubt it, but suffice to say, I have the tummy knots and it’s got nothing to do with my knitting.

Speaking of knitting, I finished the Spring Forward socks.

These were done with Duet Sock Yarn (Skinny) in Icicles and I used 2.25mm needles.

And, in keeping with SOS 2008, I promptly started another sock.

This is the May 2008 offering of the Rockin Sock Club. These are a bit more of a challenging pattern than I am used to working on. Lately, I find as my life gets busier, I gravitate towards easier socks. However, I think that I was craving something more complex. Just enough lace to keep me interested and enough stockinette to keep things from getting out of hand.

Oh, and TG has been busy too…
