All Wollmeise, All The Time

Well, thanks to Claire, I can officially say that I have a new obsession and my cup runeth over. Actually, my obsession is your gain as my cup runeth too far over. I will be bringing these to the guild meeting Wed night. Here is just a little taste of the excesses of my riches.

Long after the gardening gloves are put away for good…

…after the flowers have wilted and died…

…and not long after the last steak has been BBQ’ed…

It will be Sweater Time again!

Yup, it’s that time of year again where my thoughts turn to falling leaves, Halloween, and dare I say it, SNOW! I can’t wait to get out the snuggly warm hand-knit sweaters and socks of seasons past and start dreaming of hand-knits present and future.

I have the yarn wound and ready to start my first sweater of the season; Wicked.

I am thinking that this Malabrigo will suit the pattern just fine.

And, then it’s off to the races with the Apres Surf Hoodie from last Summer’s Interweave Knits. Hopefully soon, this:

will become this:

And finally, I am thinking that with the return of fall, also comes the return of knee socks. So, watch out for these socks coming soon to needles near you!

I have overextended myself a little lately and consequently, I have been forced to rush a little to meet some deadlines.

We spent the weekend landscaping. It was some tough, let me tell you!

Hard Work!

Hard Work!

Another project taking up a lot of my time is the Cookie A. KAL project #2.

For some reason, I decided to knit a pattern this month that requires a little more concentration than is usually allotted during the tv hours in our house. Of course, with small children, all knitting related activities need to be jammed into those fleeting moments between the time that the kids go to bed and the time that I go to bed. And, this is prime time for both tv watching and snuggling with TG.

So, not a ton of progress is being made on these Marlene‘s, but they sure are pretty.

We need to be finished in six days!

We need to be finished in six days!

This is the first time I have broken into the Sundara stash and I must say, I love how it is working up. The subtle shading and firm twist really makes the twisted ribbing pop!

Of course, things would go a lot faster if I stopped sneaking away from the knitting to buy some new yarn. But how could I resist this?

Still working on the endless stockinette that is Jane.

Coming right along. Miles of stockinette? Check.

Rewarding and easy to knit; requiring little thought? Check.

Pretty in Pink

Pretty in Pink

Worth it in the end? To be determined.

And, worst of all, nothing particularly interesting to talk about today. The kids are all well behaved. I am cleaning closets this weekend. And the weather is unbelievably fabulous.

So, here is a yarn photo, apropos of nothing…

It seems as though I have a little problem with indecision. A big problem, actually.

See, I signed up for a knit along for Cookie A.’s new book; Sock Innovation. And, the idea is that we will KAL one sock from the book (in order) each month.

But, I have a problem with which yarn to use. Although we are supposed to cast on the first of each month, I have yet to even wind a yarn because I hate choosing which one of the stash to use.I can’t bear the thought of parting with even one skein of yarn (ya, I know I’m crazy; my friends keep reminding me).

So, I came up with an idea that I think just might force me to just wind the yarn each month and not really have to make the final decision myself. It will all be worth it if it means keeping up with the KAL.

With that in mind, I have decided that a week or so before the first of each month, I will post three pics of yarn that I think might work with the next months design. I will also post a pic of the pattern. You get to decide which yarn I use.

I will post a vote and y’all can choose which one you think will look best.

This is the first pattern in the book:

An new vest cast it’s way into my heart the other day.

Retina burning red

This is going to be the U-Neck Vest from Fitted Knits when it’s done. Right now, it’s just a bunch of circular ribbing.

And, at the guild meeting last week, I scored a skein of Wollmeise 80/20 Fluffy Wildthing in Indischrot from blogless Claire. She is my new hero. Oh red, how I love thee…

I wish this was edible

p.s. If you are wondering about the shawl, it’s been returned safe and sound. All is well in the world.

I know last week I was all about the new Cat Bordhi sock, and while I had the best of intentions to stay loyal to that sock, this week everything changed when I went to the mail.

And found this:

BMFA Sock Club Kit March 2009

BMFA Sock Club Kit March 2009

I haven’t loved a kit this much since the Monsoon kit that came out in 2007.

So I threw everything else aside and gleefully cast on for the first sock.

Then I realized that I jogged my picot edge (or so I thought), resulting in a sock knit on the bias. So, I ripped the darn thing out, undid the picot edge, started knitting the leg again and realized that the sock biases all on it’s own.

Of course.

So, here is the progress that I’ve made so far. I keep trying not to think about all that work lost.

Rogue Roses

And, see, the little rosebuds? These socks are so girly, I could just about plotz.

Oooh, rosebuds.

I will be honest, I really hadn’t realized that two whole weeks had gone by since my last blog post. Life has been very busy here and many things have happened.

The eyes are fine. So many people have been asking me how the whole thing went down and I wanted to level with everyone. It was a painful, boring recovery. I couldn’t see so tv, computer, and everything else that involves seeing was out. I had no idea not being able to see hindered a person so much. I guess I had never even really thought about it before. I now have a whole new level of respect for those that have lost their sight and still manage to function, because, let me tell you, I was a mess.

I did manage some knitting while I was to be knitting. I finished Monkey’s pants, however, since she refuses to model them right now, pictures for these will have to wait.

Then, we headed off to Seattle, and on the plane there, I started the Imogen sweater (Ravelry Link) that has been calling my name since it came home with me from Victoria in May of last year.

Nearly Done...

Nearly Done...

I wish I could have shown you a finished sweater, however, I still have the huge shawl collar to finish. So close, yet still so far.

However, I did also manage to finish one and a bit of a sock over the last few weeks.

Oh, and since we were coming through Vancouver, I managed to persuade TG to stop at Sweet Georgia yarns. Felicia, the creator and mastermind behind Sweet Georgia yarns was so friendly and easy to chat with. I would show you a picture of her and the studio, however, I opted not to take photos of the quiet loft space that she occupies. It seemed like I would be violating the sanctity of the studio and I wanted to be respectful.

Instead, I will show you what I managed to limit myself to buying. Thank goodness for TG’s watchful eye or I would have walked out with everything.
