Serving It Up Homestyle

So, weekends are typically family days here at chezDarts. We normally hang out, the kids have friends over, and the house is a zoo.

This morning was no different.

And, since there isn’t the crazy rushing around to get out the door like there is during the week, I always make time for a super yummy breakfast and then some knitting. This morning was no exception. While I was trying to decide what to make, Annie wrote about the poached eggs on toast she had made. Perfect.

They were a total hit!

The kids devoured them so fast that I almost didn’t have time for a photo.

Thanks Annie! What will you make next weekend??

Something Fishy

I managed to get Bunny to slow down long enough this weekend to take some pics of a hat I finished earlier this year.

It’s the Dead Fish hat from Knitty. I knit this hat out of some scrap Malabrigo and some hand spun that I had lying around and I think you will agree, it turned out great.

She really seems quite taken with it. And I am just thrilled that we finally have a hat she will wear. Given that it’s currently a trillion degrees below zero, that’s pretty important.

Of course, the side effect to making one really great hat? Monkey wants one too. Stay tuned.

Cover Your Mouth

TG and Monkey had the funniest conversation this morning. He came to the top of the stairs where she was on her hands and knees frantically scraping something towards her with both hands. He couldn’t figure out what the heck she was doing, but figured it would be a good idea to investigate further.

The conversation went a little something like this:

TG: What are you doing Monkey?

Monkey: Nothing.

TG: Monkey, don’t lie. What are you trying to clean up?

TG: Is that chewed up carrot?

Monkey: Yes.

TG: Did you spit out your carrot all over the stairs?

Monkey: No. I bless you’ed.

So apparently after they had a good laugh and he vacuumed it all up, he imparted some pretty important wisdom.

He taught her to cover her mouth when she sneezes. Funny kid.

p.s. I wrote most of this post last night and when I woke up this morning, it was snowing. Perhaps I angered mother nature when I threw caution to the wind and dared to get a pedicure…

I have so very much to show you. I have been such a busy girl this past week.

Stripe-y Socks

Stripe-y Socks

The yarn? Hazel Knits in 117 Chuckanut Drive. Bought while on vacation in Seattle (the first time) and cast on the other night. Didn’t even know these were a self-striping. I suspect the dyer didn’t actually plan it that way. Apparently, I am a magic knitter.

Mmmmm.... Manos Silk

Mmmmm.... Manos Silk

Manos Silk Clapotis in Rust. I really like the silk blend much better than the plain old silk-less Manos. Is silk-less even a word?

Who cares? I can’t wait to start dropping stitches!

Itty-Bitty Sweater Piece

Itty-Bitty Sweater Piece

And, I cast on for a new sweater for Monkey. Hopefully this will encourage her to keep her mitts off of mine.

Speaking of my sweater, I bet you are still wondering when I will make with the photos of the Oh La La Vest. Soon, my friends, soon. I just need some good light and a willing model…

I wanted to show you how close I was to the end of the Oh lala Vest.

But, the baby scares me. Clearly, she doesn’t like it when I spend time knitting.

Stop Knitting, Mommy!

Stop Knitting, Mommy!

And, when she saw the vest, she claimed it as her own.

Mine, Mommy!

Mine, Mommy!

And then she abused it a little bit…

I own this now...

I own this now...

Once the baby goes to bed, I can retrieve the vest and finish it off. Hopefully I will have a finished garment to show you tomorrow.

Yesterday, I finished a Sock Monkey.

All Ready for Easter

All Ready for Easter

Don’t you just love the bows on her ears?

While I love the finished product, I did not love the process as much.

I don’t know why, but the whole thing seemed fiddly, tedious, and n0t at all portable like a good pair of socks usually turns out to be. Perhaps because these sock Monkeys are knit out of BMFA STR Heavyweight and so I kept thinking the whole thing should have fit a little easier into my knitting bag (which is absurd, really, since a sock monkey is a lot bigger than a sock) and I hated the part where I had to work around the stuffing.

However, the finished Monkey is really, very cute and will be well loved by my own little Monkey.

Pattern details here.

And, not to be left out, Bunny will also be thrilled that I have finally finished something for her. I cast off a new cardigan in the perfect spring color; yellow.

Spring, Here I Come

Spring, Here I Come

She picked this yarn out almost a year ago and asked for a sweater. Procrastination is expensive… I had to go back to my LYS and pick up a new skein because she has grown so much over the last year that I ran right out of yarn.

This pattern took me just under a month and although it was tedious at times, I have to say overall, I really like the finished project.

Pattern details here.

I seem to be in a spring-y mood. I cast on for a new spring sock.

The yellow and purple remind me of crocuses which will shortly be in bloom. I can’t wait.

Ick…

Monkey appears to like my favorite silk scarf almost as much as I do. However, she found a new, and strangely icky way in which to love it.

Oooooh, Pretty

Great For Picking My Nose With

Anything good?

Anything good?

She did this over and over for about an hour until I tried to take it away.

Ewww...

Ewww...

Anyone know how to get boogers out of a silk scarf?
