Still feeling a bit under the weather, but not so much that I haven’t managed to spend some time working on old UFO’s.

Remember the Enemoi Mittens that I cast on for a year ago? I finally finished one. What stalled me was a mistake that I had made in the pattern during the decrease rows. A little help from a friend and I was able to pick back a few rows and get back on track.

I cast on for the second mitt last night. Maybe these will be finished by the time it snows.

I also started on a pair of mitts for a work retreat later this week. We got the agenda yesterday afternoon and it looks like all of the afternoon sessions will be outside. So, I figured I would need a functional pair of flip-top mitts to keep me warm.

The pattern is Jack-in-the-Box Mittens by Robin Melanson from Knitting New Mittens & Gloves. They are a super fast, very satisfying knit.

There is something about the leaves falling off the trees and the chill in the air that made me almost excited that winter is coming. This is certainly a new feeling for me. I don’t recall ever feeling this way about fall before. In fact, the mere thought of fall used to send me practically into convusions. Not anymore.

Perhaps it has to do with all the knitted (and very warm!) garments that have been hibernating in my closet all summer. Bring it on winter. This year, I am prepared.

I am sick. Running a fever, coughing, runny nose sick.

The saddest part? That being home sick today was the first full day that I have had all to myself in more than a month. I ate soup, drank tea, watched movies, slept a lot, knit a little, and spent the day in my jammies. It’s crazy to look at being sick as a gift, but there it is.

So, basically, I guess, once you are a mom, sick rocks. And, tonight, Monkey and I get to hang around for a while together while TG & Bunny go swimming.

Today was a good day all around.

I am almost finished with the Olive Branch Yoga Hoodie. I was a bit worried this morning when I realized that in about 10 rows I would be done and I have not once, ever tried this sweater on to see if it will fit.

So, in a fit of panic, with the thought of ripping back countless rows of mindless stockinette, I pulled out my template sweater and compared the two. Big sigh of relief, it looks like it’s going to fit. It’s actually got a little bit of positive ease, maybe an inch and a half on either side which will be absolutely perfect for a sweater meant to be worn as a top layer.

I love the detailing at the bottom. It’s simple enough to work on while watching tv with TG, and with enough detail to break up the mindless stockinette.

And, the Go With the Flow socks are coming along nicely.

Hopefully these will be finished before Rhinebeck as well. Only 24 more sleeps…

In Which I Blog Again

Last week was devoid of blogging. I was away for a week in  for work. I think I must actually be pretty darn lucky to be sent to Canmore to work. Just one of the many perks of my job.

I almost managed to finish the sock swap socks that I started back before we went to Seattle. The pair that I finally settled on were the ones that I thought I had lost when we were on vacation.

These socks were a simple design that I came up with off the top of my head. I wanted them to be simple and yet, not too plain. This yarn really lends itself to cables and the ribs will help to ensure that they will be stretchy enough for my swap partner.
Oh, look what I picked up while away this week for work…

I want to show you some of the things that I have been working on in the last little while. But, first, a little background information.

As you may or may not remember, a while ago, I entered into a sock swap, being hosted by the Goddess of Lace. Since then, I have cast on a number of times for the person that supposedly will be receiving my handmade socks. However, for some reason, the socks do not want to become sock swap socks.

The first pair I cast on was a simple 2×2 cable rib pattern in Cherry Tree Hill. These socks, although so dang purdy, were so against being swap socks that they actually were stolenwent missing during the vacation. I suspect Angela from Duet may have been coveting them during my visit. See how tightly she is holding those needles? Heh.

These are the second socks that I cast on for. I love these socks. I am working on them in the Ms. Bananie sock yarn (in the pee my pants colorway) and they are so very pretty. Truly, this photo does not do these socks justice. However, I realized, after turning the heel of these socks that they just won’t be big enough in the instep due to the nature of the pattern, to fit the intended recipient. So, these won’t be swap socks either.

And, these I cast on for last night. I thought they would be for my swap partner, but again, I was wrong.

I do think that I have decided on a sock that will perfectly fit my swap partner’s personality and tastes. At least, that’s what I am telling myself. Really, what that means is that I am not casting on for another sock.
In the meantime, I have a sock to finish before Friday night. Wish me luck.

So, today I shirked work to spend some time on the things that are important. Things like Bunny’s first day of school.

And, I put aside my swap socks to work on my Undulating Waves Scarf.

Still no photos of the car, I know. I really have no excuse. Maybe next time.
