Archive for July, 2008

Last night I gave in to the madness and signed up for the Ravelympics and The Goddess of Lace’s sock swap. I know, I know. This is clearly too much. I may not be to blame however, as I am still riding the euphoria that is Rhinebeck. Ack.

So, I have decided that the best idea is to get all my WIP’s sorted through Ravelympics. Of course, we all know how this has gone in the past. A little something like this and this. Seems as though I never really get them all off the needles.

On another note, I cast on for the second Cleopatra Stocking.

I then cast on for the second Embossed Leaves sock.

And I scored some of the yummiest limited edition yarn I have ever seen. One of a kind folks. Thanks Fiber Queen.

Someone had a birthday today. Two someones actually.

We had a Mega Bounce House.

We had presents.

And we had cake.

Good fun was had by all.

In other news, I finished the first Cleopatra Stocking.

SOS 2008 - Cleopatra Stocking

Are you wondering what the white tail is sticking out? That’s a lifeline that I inserted into the sock when I strayed from the pattern. I wanted to be sure that I could quickly erase my modification to the back of the sock if it wasn’t looking like it fit with the rest of the sock. Luckily I love it. Hopefully I will be able to duplicate it when I cast on for the second sock.

I am also working on a set of Embossed Leaves socks.

Ok, so life has been a little unkind lately. Not so much in a full on kick you in the teeth sort of way, but more so in a hey, check out what’s important to you and make sure you make time for it sort of way. Again, with the cryptic, I know. More details? Yes, I can do that.

Let’s see, Monkey is sick. For her birthday party, she has a runny nose and is all stuffy. Say it with me, “poor Monkey”. I was so busy last week (and the week before) that I went (finally) to get her Bunny a birthday present and they only had one Easy Bake Oven in the store (seriously!) and it got scooped by a 6 year old about 5 minutes before we could get to it. Thank goodness for Grandma. She scored one at Walmart.

What else? Right. TG has been busy this week. He sanded and painted both decks at our place, mudded and sanded a ton of walls and primed them for painting. And, he is actually painting them as we speak. And, I have put in about 100 hours of overtime in the last 3 months. Crazy. Yes, I get this.

However, I have a secret remedy for all this work…

A Trip to Rhinebeck!!!! Oh yes. With my girlfriends, Ms. Bananie and The Goddess of Lace. I booked my flight today. So, the blog will be on hiatus for five days in October. Not to worry though, I have much to show you before then.

Like some new Socks that Rock. Goody Goody, Gumdrops.

And, I played around with the editing feature on Flickr a bit so I could really show the true color variations of the turquoise cashmere lace that came in the mail the other day. Much better.

I have been on the fence lately about lace knitting. I keep buying lace yarn, because I want so much to be a lace knitter. However, I am forced to face the fact that my lace knitting spends more time in the time out basket than in my hands. Oh well, I shall persevere.

As a matter of fact, this came in the mail today. Cashmere. Pretty.

I would have liked to show the subtle variations in the teal blue. The spectrum of the skein is fantastic. It ranges from greenish seas to deep ocean blue. However, given the quality of light when I come home from work and the sun is setting, it’s hard to take a decent photo. You will just have to take my word for it. And soft? Forgetaboutit.

I also turned the heel on my first Cleopatra Stocking. This is a tricksy pattern as there are no photos of the back of the sock in the pattern. I suppose I will just have to improvise.

p.s. I miss Tuesday night knit circle. I promise to get out next week…

Life has been a tich stressful lately. Seems as though the things that I thought would be a slam dunk have been a big ‘ol mess and the things that I thought would be uber tough ended up turning out in the end. Could I be more cryptic? I doubt it, but suffice to say, I have the tummy knots and it’s got nothing to do with my knitting.

Speaking of knitting, I finished the Spring Forward socks.

These were done with Duet Sock Yarn (Skinny) in Icicles and I used 2.25mm needles.

And, in keeping with SOS 2008, I promptly started another sock.

This is the May 2008 offering of the Rockin Sock Club. These are a bit more of a challenging pattern than I am used to working on. Lately, I find as my life gets busier, I gravitate towards easier socks. However, I think that I was craving something more complex. Just enough lace to keep me interested and enough stockinette to keep things from getting out of hand.

Oh, and TG has been busy too…

Happy Birthday Baby

Monkey is One today. I can’t believe how far she has come from when we first brought her home.

She was perfect from the first minute of being born. Easy going and snugly, but still determined and busy as hell, she makes me laugh from the moment she wakes in the morning, until the time she goes to sleep. I am truly lucky to have such a special babe in my life.

I love you Monkey.

Have I shown you the dpn tubes that I picked up from a friend? I loves these. I actually lost a needle a few weeks ago. I stood up to go plug my meter and when I came back and sat down, the needle from one of my socks was gone! Seriously. So, to combat that pesky problem in the future, I always put one of these on my dpn’s when I have a SIP (Sock in Progress). Ha. Take that sock needle thieves!

Oh yes, and I finally turned the heel on my second Spring Forward sock. Exciting, no?

The first Spring Forward sock has sprung off the needles and the second one has jumped onto my needles. I think that the Duet Skinny is now my new favorite sock yarn. Just the perfect balance of sproingy and smooshy.

As well, I have been working on the Embossed Leaves socks in Conjoined Creations Flat Feet.

To be honest, I don’t know how I feel about these. They are a bit snug and I waffle daily about ripping them back and starting over on larger needles. I think that they need to spend some time in the time out bin while I determine their fate.

Embossed Leaves

In the meantime, I think that I will cast on for another pair of socks out of the new stash that I scored on Sunday at the Swap. Check out these goodies…

I think I am at the half way mark for my SOTS II stole, which is great since the stole KAL ended, um, back in March.

The nice thing about this stole is that there is an ability to add extra rows which I have chosen to do as the Socks that Rock Laci that I am using has 1750 yards (!). It’s currently about 3 feet unblocked and I am hoping that this means that once it’s finished and blocked, it will be about 7 feet long.

The color isn’t quite so vibrant in real life, but putting it outside on the glass patio table to photograph helps show the amazing lace stitches.

In other news, I have turned the heel on my Spring Forward socks. I am getting about 8 stitches per inch using the Duet Skinny and I have to say, I really love this base. It knits up similar, but nice than the Cherry Tree Hill as the stitches seem to have better alignment. This seems to make for a firm, but beautiful fabric.

I wasn’t thrilled with the color at first, but I am really digging it now. It’s a pretty variegated blue that is really playing well with the stitch definition.

I actually was having some difficulty with the lace pattern of the socks at first, but I seem to be into the swing of it now and these are moving along quite well.
